We’re celebrating #womenshistorymonth by honoring some of the many extraordinary Pueblo women, past and present.

First up is P’oe Tsáwä / Esther Martinez, teacher, linguist, and storyteller. P’oe Tsáwä taught the Tewa language in Ohkay Owingeh schools, and is the author of the “San Juan Pueblo Tewa Dictionary,” described by Melissa Axelrod (associate professor of linguistics at UNM) as “one of the most remarkable… efforts at documentation of an endangered language.”

We are so grateful to P’oe Tsáwä for her efforts to preserve the Tewa language to be passed to future generations.
